Chris Gomersall
Strive to become the original artist, not just a tribute act.
This masterclass is mainly concerned with ideas in wildlife and nature photography, rather than the mechanics of it, so is aimed at those who have already achieved a reasonable level of technical competence. Chris will extrapolate some of the themes first explored in his 2012 book “Wildlife Photographer - a course in creative photography” promoting the pursuit of originality and innovation.
In this detailed series Chris, who has enjoyed a long and distinguished career at the top of Wildlife Photography will be pushing you to learn from his own evolution from working with the RSPB, where he worked to a strict brief on the images he captured to where he is today.
Chris's career evolved, with the opportunity to work on his own projects, producing images in his unique and personal style, and he has found his real photographic voice helping you find yours is the aim of the course.
Chris will use his own body of work and refer to the history of art, other genres of photography, and some critical thinkers' views. We'll consider the current status of wildlife photography, how it has changed, and where we might be heading - accepting the inevitability of influence and inspiration whilst guarding against plagiarism. This event will naturally lead to exploring "The Vision Thing", learning to see and train ourselves to translate complex three-dimensional scenes into compelling two-dimensional pictures and examining ideas around natural design, visualisation, abstraction, and metaphor and getting into the soul of the subject. As Chris says, "Expressing yourself. By definition, there can be no recipe book for creativity and innovation."

Introduction
The first session of the course will include a short introduction by the Photography Experts team to explain to how the Masterclass course will work. This will include a full tour of your subscriber features, your document and recording repository, and use of the forum features. There will also be tips on how to make the most of Zoom to fully participate in the live sessions, and engage with Chris and your fellow course members. Access to technical support by Photography Experts will continue throughout the duration of the entire course.
Session 1
The vision thing.Learning to see, and train ourselves to be able to translate complex three-dimensional scenes in to compelling two-dimensional pictures. Exploring ideas around natural design, visualisation, abstraction and metaphor. And getting in to the soul of the subject. Expect some practical assignments, but you can be assured they won’t require any fancy equipment.
Session 2
Expressing yourself. By definition, there can be no recipe book for creativity and innovation, but we will discuss some possible strategies for nurturing our own true voice and identity, and how to make ourselves heard through the noise. Dealing with issues such as audience recognition, finding a niche, establishing projects, and working in teams.
Remote Working with Forum Support
Please note that there is no formal meeting session between the 7 April and the session on the 21 April Chris has purposely built in a short break between the teaching sessions and the final review group session to allow everyone to work through the ideas and information imparted, he will though be collaborating via the forum with tips and supportive advice and individual images and concepts are worked on.
Session 3
Review time. Pulling together what we have learned so far, and recapitulating the key points. Whilst this masterclass forum will allow Chris to offer feedback on your work throughout the course, this session will be the main opportunity to advance your own ideas and present your images for critique.
